Creatively Praying

The worship leader at church challenged us, “Pray differently,” he said. Somehow his words struck a deep chord within my heart. Lately, my repetitious prayers seemed more like routine daily exercises than a fresh encounter with God. How can one experience a deeper walk with God through prayer? An answer came to me by praying creatively.

This morning I creatively prayed. Rather than focus as usual upon God healing Elaine’s physical disabilities, I prayed for her spiritual protection. I asked for God to send His army to combat the enemy’s onslaught of discouragement in her life. I see God more interested in our spiritual condition over and above our physical bodies. As believers in Christ, we are promised new bodies in Heaven.

Yes, I do believe our Creator is still interested in our physical well being. However our spirit is eternal and bodies temporal. He desires our whole heart as we faithfully weather life’s ongoing storms here. Creatively praying, as prompted by the Holy Spirit, is one vital way for a fresh encounter with our LORD.

About Our Dark Night of the Soul: Finding Solace Through Suffering

Our Dark Night of the Soul: Finding Solace Through Suffering shares the true story about a sudden family tragedy. As author of the book to be published in the summer of 2014, the true account tells of my sister being rear ended by a drunk driver. She barely survives the high speed crash being left to live as a quadriplegic. Written from a brother's perspective, the manuscript shares the heartfelt story of ongoing physical and emotional pain experienced by both victim and family. Only through God's grace can a family survive such a tragedy!
