A Different Holiday Tradition

As we look at the holiday season initiating its furious, full swing, one must ponder the importance of many seasonal traditions. Black Friday shoving now heralds the beginning of the official Christmas season.

As people hustle, rustle and bustle to purchase their latest gadgets in celebration of the holiday, some people chose not to participate. The latest electronic toy and perfectly trimmed tree pale in comparison to the needs of hungry, suffering and disenfranchised people.

Next week, Elaine will undergo a medical procedure to alleviate an ongoing physical malady. Hopefully, a gift of some peace will follow it. By enduring pain through a lens of suffering, the extraneous, frivolous holiday events dim in comparison.

What would happen this year if our priorities refocused from ourselves to others: the unemployed, the depressed, the homeless, the handicapped? In a gentle act of kindness, people would be treasured, not trampled, in the true spirit of Christmas.

About Our Dark Night of the Soul: Finding Solace Through Suffering

Our Dark Night of the Soul: Finding Solace Through Suffering shares the true story about a sudden family tragedy. As author of the book to be published in the summer of 2014, the true account tells of my sister being rear ended by a drunk driver. She barely survives the high speed crash being left to live as a quadriplegic. Written from a brother's perspective, the manuscript shares the heartfelt story of ongoing physical and emotional pain experienced by both victim and family. Only through God's grace can a family survive such a tragedy!
