In the Blink of an Eye

Last evening as my wife and I walked our dog throughout the neighborhood, out bolted a furious, huge mastiff dog. The dog suddenly pulled away from it’s owner and leash lunging toward us to destroy our mid sized lab-mix pooch. In the blink of an eye, the massive jawed dog jumped upon Cocoa’s back as she wildly yelped. As we fought for Cocoa’s life by aiding in her escape, she suffered severe deep lacerations later treated by a vet. Miraculously, she survived and God protected us from even a scratch.

How quickly terror can come upon one. Although the dog incident cannot be compared to my sister’s accident, neither of us had warning before each crisis. As a bolt from the blue, a turn of events can alter one’s life forever as in the case of my sister.

One cannot fully prepare for the unexpected. However prayer and communion with God in advance can help set a spiritual heart tone to help endure unpleasant life events. Without a chiseled bedrock faith before a tragedy, who can endure it? Will we beseech God to help shore up our spiritual foundations for future storms ahead?

About Our Dark Night of the Soul: Finding Solace Through Suffering

Our Dark Night of the Soul: Finding Solace Through Suffering shares the true story about a sudden family tragedy. As author of the book to be published in the summer of 2014, the true account tells of my sister being rear ended by a drunk driver. She barely survives the high speed crash being left to live as a quadriplegic. Written from a brother's perspective, the manuscript shares the heartfelt story of ongoing physical and emotional pain experienced by both victim and family. Only through God's grace can a family survive such a tragedy!

Amen! So glad Cocoa will recover and that you were protected. Very scary!
